Electric Vans

Electric cars, electric vans – there is no denying that over the last year there has been a huge change in the vehicles we buy, changing from petrol and diesel which we have relied on for so long to a much cleaner, quieter and actually better way of powering your vehicle.

A cleaner future

At CoolVan we realised this change was coming and started to prepare ourselves over 5 years ago. Initially we purchased some electric cars for our own fleet, so we could grasp what it was like to drive and operate an electric car and van, so that when we are asked questions by our customers, we would be well equipped to answer.

We then started to look at what changes we needed to implement on our existing refrigerated van conversions to make sure the fridge systems achieved the temperatures required, whilst using the minimum amount of energy. We quickly concluded that the key aim would be to maintain as much of the base vehicle range as possible. This would also minimise co2 usage.

MARKET-LEADING RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

Whilst we researched this, we also questioned what we could do to make the overall conversion process less impactful to the environment, this has led us to reduce our waste and energy usage and we also came across a product that not only had superb insulation qualities but was also made from recycled plastic bottles.

A single fridge van conversion could take up to 5000 of plastic bottles out of landfill and help to keep people’s groceries nice and cool at the same time. Plus, the majority of the insulation can then be recycled again and maybe even be used to insulate a temperature-controlled vehicle built by CoolVan again in the future.

This patented conversion technology is also lighter and more durable than other insulation systems. It is also substantially more thermally efficient, achieving an industry leading ATP K-Value 0.29 in recent tests.

EXPERTS IN THE FIELD

Over this time, we have become experts in the conversion of refrigerated and temperature controlled electric vans. The technology is changing rapidly as is the mindset of our customers, who have lots of questions about this new eco-friendly product offering. have become experts in the conversion of refrigerated and temperature controlled electric vans. • Will an electric fridge van affect my driving range?

Not as much as you might think! We design our electric fridge vans with efficient refrigeration systems and high-performance insulation, so the impact on range is kept to a minimum. In most cases, your range will depend more on how you drive and your route than on the fridge system itself.

  • Are electric fridge vans practical for daily delivery work?

They can be, depending on how you operate. We usually recommend electric fridge vans for urban routes, repeat deliveries, and shorter distances where charging is easy to manage. If your routes are consistent, they tend to fit in without any issues.

  • How efficient are electric fridge vans compared to diesel?

We focus heavily on thermal efficiency when building our electric fridge vans, using advanced insulation to reduce how hard the system has to work. That means less energy is needed to maintain temperature, which helps support overall efficiency over time.

  • Are electric fridge vans suitable for all businesses?

Not always. We’ll usually look at your routes, mileage, and day-to-day use before recommending an electric vehicle. They’re a great fit for city-based work and low-emission zones, but if you’re covering long distances or working unpredictable routes, diesel may still be the better option.

  • Can electric fridge vans be built around my specific requirements?

Yes, all of our electric fridge vans can be built to suit how you work. Our team at CoolVan will design the layout, temperature setup, and overall configuration around your operation, rather than offering a one-size-fits-all solution.

  • What should I consider before switching to an electric fridge van?

The main things are your daily mileage, route predictability, and access to charging. Electric vans work best when your operation is consistent and planned. If your schedule changes day to day or involves long-distance travel, it’s worth weighing that up before making the switch.
