Refrigerated Van With Meat Hanging Rails

Our customers use CoolVan’s fridge vans for transporting all kinds of products. There are the obvious things like fish, meat, dairy, ice cream, cakes and sandwiches, then the less obvious like medicines and drugs and even products you wouldn’t even think needed to be kept in a refrigerated van like carbon fibre which is used in the aerospace industry.

The one thing these all have in common is that they go into our fridge vans and are either placed on the floor or are stored on our custom made shelves.

Occasionally though we have customers who don’t want their product on the floor of our refrigerated vehicles and their product wouldn’t fit on any shelves so the only other option is to hang them; I am talking about butchers who carry whole carcasses in their fridge vans, and need a solution that will not only keep their goods chilled but will also allow them to carry it hung hygienically from the roof of the van.

Here is our meat rail system.

Meat Rail Collage

We start with a Medium or Long wheelbase van, the best models are the Citroen Relay, Peugeot Boxer, Nissan NV400 or Renault Master, this is because these vans have the best available payloads.

Before we start the  fridge van conversion we fit 2 steel frames into the van, this will then take the weight of the inch thick aluminium flat bar we use to bolt the meat rail to.

The van is then insulated with 50mm thick insulation, fibre glassed from floor to ceiling and laminated to create a smooth, water proof finish.

For additional strength chequer plate is fitted to the sides, bulkhead, wheel boxes and lower bulkhead, this is to protect against damage from swinging hooves and sharp bones

We usually fit a GAH fridge system to our refrigerated vans with meat rails as GAH still offer a metal evaporator which we feel gives a little more protection than the plastic covers.

Finally the rails are bolted to the aluminium flat bar that is now cleverly hidden behind the insulation and fibre glass we then fit the meat hooks and chains that keep the hooks in place.

The finished product is a tough, strong hard working van that will be just at carrying hanging carcasses as it would carrying boxes of produce.

If you want more information about us converting your van into a fridge van with or without meat rails or you want us to supply the complete fridge van please feel free to call 0845 3311 484 or complete an enquiry form here.
